A 34-year-old man died from injuries he received in a single-car wreck in the 8600 block of Lowcountry Highway (U.S. Hwy. 21) at the intersection of Shiloh Loop Thursday evening Nov. 19.
At 9:33 p.m., another motorist reported the accident. While emergency units were enroute, a second caller advised the driver was trapped in the wreckage. Additional Fire-Rescue units were assigned to the incident.
The first arriving firefighter-paramedics found the car with heavy damage, wrapped around a pine tree. It appeared the southbound Saturn crossed the northbound lane, struck a concrete culvert, then several trees.
The driver was trapped in the wreckage and had no signs of life. The coroner’s office was notified.
Crews used rescue tools to remove two doors to gain access to the man. He was extricated from the car and turned over to the Coroner’s Office.
Juan Martinez, 34, of Walterboro died of multiple trauma, said Colleton County Coroner Richard Harvey.
The S.C. Highway Patrol is investigating the crash
