The Reverend Gerald Thomas Mabry, 81, of Yemassee, entered into eternal rest Tuesday afternoon, April 29, 2025, at his residence surrounded by his loving family, under the care of Edisto Hospice. Born November 26, 1943, in Norwood, North Carolina, he was a son of the late Thomas Henry Mabry and Annette Carpenter Mabry. He served his country faithfully in the United States Navy, serving aboard the USS Forrestal. Gerald dedicated his life to service. Gerald worked for 35 years as a Forester with Mead-Westvaco. He also worked for many years at Benton Feed and Seed. Gerald was a true servant of God. While attending Zion Baptist Church, he felt his calling for the ministry and to serve God in a greater way. He became one of the most beloved pastors in the South Carolina Lowcountry. He pastored Zion Baptist Church and retired from Hendersonville Baptist Church, where he pastored for 33 years. After retirement he assumed the role of supply pastor and then accepted the full-time position at Peniel Baptist Church in Islandton for 11 years. Reverend Mabry volunteered as a Chaplain for Colleton Medical Center for 32 years, receiving the Frist Humanitarian Award in 2024. He also volunteered as the Chaplain for the South Carolina Association of Conservation Districts. He was awarded the Colleton County Conservationist of the Year in 2018. In 2009, he received the South Carolina Baptist Convention Smaller Membership Pastor of the Year. Reverend Mabry was a friend to all who knew him and a mentor to many pastors beginning their career. Gerald was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and just spending time outdoors. He dearly loved his family and spending time with them. He was always willing to teach his grandchildren and great grandchildren about the outdoors and Jesus. He could often be found sitting in the bleachers at any event his grandchildren and great grandchildren were participating in. Surviving are: his wife of 61 years, Doloris Morgan Mabry of Yemassee; sons, Timothy “Tim” Mabry and his wife Valeria, and Theodore “Teddy” Mabry and his wife Robin; grandchildren, Bray Campbell (K.C.), Morgan Mabry (Julie), Cameron Mabry, McKenna Mabry (Lee Willis), and Caleb Mabry; great grandchildren, Meredith Olivia Mabry, Bryar Kenneth Campbell, Abigail Sailer Mabry, Kallen Arthur Campbell, Erin Bartos (Alex), Chelsey Reaster, and Kacey Wills (Jake); a very special neighbor that he loved as a grandchild, Raylynn Martin; brother-in-law, Danny Morgan and his wife Lois; sister-in-law, Hilda Mabry; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Ray Mabry; brothers, Travis Mabry and Roger Mabry; and a nephew, Ashley Mabry. Funeral services were held 10 o’clock, Saturday morning, May 3, 2025, at The Brice Herndon Funeral Home, Walterboro Chapel. Interment followed in Simpson Cemetery, Albermarle, North Carolina.
