Lord, Please Bring Us Together to Serve with a Servant’s Heart

As we look around our nation, let alone the world, there is so much division among us, and it is getting worse. I wrote about this issue not long ago, but I just had to revisit it because we are getting so close to the midterm elections. The cruelty among some candidates and within party lines has become so vicious until it is a crying shame. How can you represent the people if there is hate, malice, and selfishness in your heart? Galatians 5:13 (ESV) declares, “For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.” This verse applies not only to the church, but also in any other capacity in which we are called to serve. The mudslinging, disrespect in debates, among other unbecoming acts, have gotten out of hand. Further, there is constant pulling up, throwing away, and destroying candidates’ signs in large numbers, but this is not always done by the candidates, but by others who oppose certain candidates. Everyone’s agenda is not always going to be the favorite one, but that is no reason to resort to anger, cruelty, and ultimately, violence. Lord, please bring us together to serve with a servant’s heart before we all perish.
Given what we have gone through the last two years with the pandemic, if that didn’t teach a lesson about coming together in love, humility, and compassion, I just don’t know what else it will take. It seems that every time we recover from a catastrophe, we go right back to business as usual. God is not pleased with that, and in His time, He will show us His dissatisfaction. Romans 12:16 (ESV) confirms, “Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight.” Therefore, in this election, we all must be mindful of what we say and do because purposely bringing emotional harm to our fellow man is not of Christ. If you are going to talk Christ, you must act Christ! One final word of advice to everyone: “Don’t let the donkey and the elephant cause you to forget that you belong to the Lamb!”
Always abound in the faith, and never leave home without Him!
