Mr. Lonnie Chaplin Breland, Jr., known to everyone as “LC”, 87, of Ruffin, entered into eternal rest Friday, August 13, 2021 at his residence.

Born March 3, 1934 in Ruffin, he was a son of the late Lonnie Chaplin Breland, Sr. and Viola Bishop Breland. He served his country proudly in the United States Air Force.  He served during the Vietnam Conflict, where he was awarded the Bronze Star.  Upon retirement, LC and Carolyn decided that San Antonio, Texas would be their home.  It was in San Antonio that he began Breland Construction. In 1994, they came back to the Lowcountry and made their home in Ruffin, where they had begun their life together.  He started working at Breland Farms and then returned to the construction business working with his dear friend Marshall Robertson at Robertson’s Home Repair. 

LC was a lifetime member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Ruffin, where he served as a Church Trustee for many years and could always answer any question someone had about the church. He was a member of Bells Masonic Lodge, No. 236-Ancient Free Masons, where he served as the Treasurer for 17 years.  He loved all types of sports and especially loved deer hunting with the dogs.  He also enjoyed woodworking and making things for his family and friends.

Surviving are: his wife of 65 years, Carolyn Stanfield Breland of Ruffin; grandchildren, Lonnie Chaplin Breland, IV of Madeira Beach, Florida, Lance C. Breland and his wife Samantha of San Antonio, Texas, and Krystal N. Breland-Seaman and her husband Will of San Antonio, Texas; great grandchildren, Wyatt, Wytten, Carrson, Paisley, and Kyleigh; brother, Homer K. Breland of San Antonio, Texas; two “adopted sons”, Dan Jones of San Antonio, Texas and Rick Thomas of New Braunfels, Texas; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his children, Lonnie Chaplin Breland, III and Sharon Patricia Breland; and his siblings, Eugene Breland, Maude Crosby, Helen Ulmer, Marshall Breland, and Billy Breland.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to his beloved church, Bethel United Methodist Church, care of Jan Ulmer, 437 Spencer Drive, Ruffin, South Carolina 29475.

Funeral services were held 11 o’clock, Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at Bethel United Methodist Church, Ruffin. Interment will be held at Mission Burial Park North, 20900 IH 10 W, San Antonio, Texas 78257.
