The Town of Lodge is holding a special election to fill a council seat.

The new, special election will be held on Tuesday, March 1st and is meant to fill an almost four-year term that will end in 2025: that seat became vacant when former councilman R. Chris Smith won the town’s recent mayoral election runoff, held in November of this year.

Filing opens this at noon on this Friday, Dec. 9th and lasts until noon on Wednesday, Dec. 22nd.

Anyone who wants to run for this council seat must file at the Colleton County Office of Voter Registration and Elections, located at 2471 Jefferies Hwy in Walterboro.

There is a $15 filing fee.

Only people who live within the town’s municipal limits can run for office.

Additionally, interested candidates must fill out a Nonpartisan Statement of Intention of Candidacy Form, located at www.scvotes.gov/candidateinformation. Candidates must also submit a Statement of Economic Interest and Campaign Disclosure form, all of which are located within the State’s Ethics Commission, all of which can be found online at www.ethics.sc.gov.

This is a non-partisan election, meaning there is no political affiliation associated with the election or with those who file to run for Lodge Town Council.
