Colleton County native and singer/songwriter Jason Cook is now writing his second album and will soon be heading to Nashville to record his new music.

Cook, 44, released his debut album, “My Kind of Country,” last year. Now, Cook says his second album is more mature and he said his album is more focused on stories of those in his life.

“I’m growing in my songwriting and I’m eager to let people hear my new music,” he said. “Right now, it’s still in the making,” he said, with a laugh, adding that the new album is not yet titled or recorded. Cook is currently finishing writing the album, and will head to his recording studio, The Grey Box in Nashville, Tennessee, next month to record it.

“The first album was about growing up, about me growing up. The ideas that came into the songs were from a time of living here and what happened in my life. This album is different,” he said. “This second album is more about who I am now, taking stories from other people and other people’s lives.”

Cook is still an independent artist, meaning he is not signed by a label. He is managed by Southern Roots, a management company located out of South Carolina that was originally based out of Nashville, Tennessee. When he is not singing and writing, Cook works as a video producer for Palmetto Rural Telephone Company (PRTC) in Walterboro. PRTC also acquired Cook’s private video production business about five years ago.

All of Cook’s works are available anywhere music is sold and can be downloaded, including ITunes.
