Local man found not guilty in wife’s death

In 2019, Ms. Terry Lewis died from complications from extremely serious burns that were allegedly inflicted by her husband Craig Lewis in 2019. At the time of the incident CCSO deputies report Craig Lewis said his wife Terry, unintentionally burned herself attempting to light a wood-burning stove in their home. Terry Lewis suffered what ended up being catastrophic burns on about 50% of her body. Ms. Lewis received emergency surgery and was in critical condition at the time, however, she died as a result of her injuries in November of 2019. An investigation into the incident discovered evidence at the Lewis’ home that did not match the story Mr. Lewis account of the events. Lewis was then charged with arson, attempted murder, and resisting arrest. Mr. Lewis was subsequently indicted by a grand jury on a murder charge after Ms. Lewis’ death.

On November 7, 2024, Craig Lewis appeared in Court in Colleton County to face the charges of arson and the murder of his wife Terry Lewis. The jury deliberated for less than two hours before returning a verdict of not guilty on both charges.
