Lions Club holds its primary fundraiser

The Walterboro chapter of The Lions Club held it’s Annual Harold Kane Pancake Supper February 28, 2025. The event was held in the cafeteria at Forest Hills Elementary School. The pancake supper is named for the late Harold Kane, who was very involved in his community and at one point served as the President of the Walterboro Lions Club.

Helping with the fundraiser were members of the Colleton County High School National Honor Society (NHS) and Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC) who greeted people and fixed plates. Not only can someone help a good cause, but have a good meal. The pancakes were fluffy and light and the link sausages were delicious.

The Lions Clubs internationally are a world leader in the effort to prevent avoidable blindness. They are working with local partners to help provide the training, medications and treatment needed for those with eye diseases, and to provide disability rehabilitation and education for all. They sponsor Camp Leo, a summer camp for Blind Children, the Storm Eye Institute, and a program that takes the Blind Fishing. They are also involved with helping organizations that train seeing eye dogs for the blind and visually impaired.

The Lions Club sells brooms to support their community efforts. Both household and warehouse brooms are available for sale at Hiotts Pharmacy.

These fundraising efforts allow the Walterboro Chapter of The Lions Club to provide eye screenings at some educational facilities in Colleton County.
