Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.
Revelation 3:20
In this text, Jesus presents us with the ultimate invitation. He stands at the door of our lives and knocks, asking for entry. The only thing separating us from
God is a door that we can open if we want to. There are only two conditions: first, do we hear His voice? Neighbor, do you hear the voice of God calling you, inviting you? It is a serious thing to resist the voice of God. The danger is that we grow so numb to God’s voice that we no longer hear it at all. The second condition is that when we hear God’s voice, we open the door to let Jesus in.
The result of opening the door to Jesus is that He comes into our life, and we have a relationship with Jesus. The idea communicated in this verse is shared food and the conversation that usually occurs around a meal. Jesus wants to bring us into His fellowship, but first, we must allow Him into our life.
Most people leave Jesus knocking on the door outside of their lives. They don’t want Jesus to come in and start changing things. Are you satisfied with all the things you have let into your life? Isn’t it time to trust Jesus?
Heavenly Father, my life is missing a relationship with You. I know that Jesus is the only way to God, so I repent of my sins and believe in Jesus, Your Son. I put my confidence in Jesus, and I trust Him to lead me. Help me to pursue Jesus and grow in my faith. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
