The Lowcountry Council of Governments (LCOG) is requesting help for Colleton citizens regarding a long-range transportation plan. They are asking for residents to complete a survey.

The survey asks if you feel that public community transportation is needed like a bus route. It also asks about bike paths, sidewalks, and repaving roadways. This is your opportunity to make a difference in the community and find ways to improve it.

LCOG is a South Carolina council designed connect local governments with State and Federal programs to promote regional business and job development, serve the aging, and in planning transportation. Their responsibility is to help communities grow and function better.

The Council is working to update the Lowcountry Area Transportation Study (LATS) 2045 Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) and Rural Area LRTP. The goal is to create an efficient transportation system that will achieve greater mobility for people and goods within the region. Walterboro has no city bus which would make life much more convenient for area residents. Many roadways also need widening, paving and sidewalks.

The plans will identify transportation needs the area over the next 20 years and create strategies to address these needs. The LRTP survey will help develop the plan and identify the ways to achieve the goal.
