Lady Indian’s offense on fire with triple digits

The Salkehatchie Lady Indians outscored their opponent last week by 164 points in three games in NJCAA Division II Region X play. The Lady Indians earned wins over Johnson Community College (112-58), Patrick & Henry (104-55), and Southwest Virginia (109-48).

They are currently 18-8 overall and 13-5 in conference play with two games remaining.

As of February 21, Salkehatchie was in third place in Region X.

In the win over Johnson Community College on February 16, Amari Hunter led scoring with 31 points and 11 rebounds. Jasmine Norman added 13 points and 4 rebounds and Koila Adams scored 12 points. Other scoring included Jakara Johnson with 12; Antwanique Walley with 11; Lauryn Bell with 11; Omari Kirkland with 8; Lakeyn Boyd with 6; Janise Shaw with 4; and Shatyra Moore with 4.

At home against Patrick & Henry on Friday, February 18, the Lady Indians were led by Amari Hunter with 34 points and 9 rebounds. Adams added 15 points and 5 rebounds.

Other scoring included Walley with 13 points; Moore with 13 points; Kirkland with 11 points; Norman with 11 points; Bell with 4; and Shaw with 3 points.

In the road win over Southwest Virginia Saturday February 19, Salkehatchie was led by Jasmine Norman who scored 24 points and claimed 2 rebounds. Walley added 23 points and had 10 rebounds in the game. Other scoring included Adams with 18 points; Hunter with her 16 points; Kirkland with 10 points; Moore with 10 points; Bell with 3 points; and Boyd with 3 points.

“I am so proud of these girls,” said Coach Olivia Gaines. “We are playing together, and it is so fun to watch. We took care of two road games back-to-back. We are looking forward to the regional tournament and whoever we face. We also expect to make another run in the national tournament.”

Salkehatchie has two regular season games remaining before beginning the post-season conference tournament. They were scheduled to host Fayetteville Tech on February 21 and then travel to Bryant & Stratton on February 23.
