Lady Indians earn win over Guilford Tech

The Salkehatchie Lady Indians opened the 2021-22 season under the leadership of second-year head coach Olivia Gaines. The Lady Indians, who compete in NJCAA Division II Region X, finished 20-2 overall last season after advancing to the NJCAA Division II National Tournament, where they went 2-2.

The Lady Indians lost to South Georgia Tech 81-76 in the season opener on November 1 on the road. Amari Hunter scored 26 points to lead Salkehatchie on the boards. Jasmine Norman scored 20 points and Antwanique Walley had 15 points and 8 points. Lauryn Bell had 8 points and 5 rebounds. Colleton County High School alumni Omari Kirkland scored 1 point and claimed 5 rebounds.

At home opener against Guilford Tech Sunday November 7, the Lady Indians earned a 68-48 win. The Lady Indians would go on to record losses against Pensacola State (88-53), Bishop State (82-77) and Cape Fear (77-61) on the road. No individual stats were available for these games.

In a 98-41 win over SC Faith A&M Wednesday November 10, Jasmine Norman led with 24 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists. Kirkland added 13 points, 10 assists and 11 rebounds. Sydney Jones had 14 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists and Sha’Tyra Moore had 14 rebounds and 6 rebounds. Other scoring included Lauryn Bell 12 points, 8 rebounds and Lakeyn Boyd 11 points, 8 rebounds.

Salkehatchie will host Cape Fear on December 1 with a 6 p.m. tipoff planned.
