Lady Hawks looking for post-season playoff spot

The Colleton Prep varsity volleyball team finished last week earning Region IV-AA wins over John Paul II and Holy Trinity and a loss against Hilton Head Prep. The Lady Hawks (12-8, 6-5) were slated to finish their regular season this week and hope to clench a spot in the SCISA AA Playoffs.

Playing against John Paul II on Monday, October 11, the Lady Hawks won 3-1 going 25-11 (w), 25-17 (l), 26-24 (w), and 25-22 (w). Emily Wilson had a block, an ace, 10 digs and 22 assists in the game. Linley Jones had 2 kills, 3 aces, and 19 digs. Other scoring included Jessica Hughes 3 kills, 4 aces, 4 digs; Caroline Kinard 6 kills, 4 aces, 7 digs; Taylor Tomedolskey 4 kills, 3 blocks, 2 aces, 4 digs; Kaylee Warren 3 kills, 2 aces; and Cassie Craven 5 kills, 2 digs.

In the loss to Hilton Head Prep on Tuesday, October 12, CPA fell 1-3 going after losing the first two sets (25-12, 25-23) then earning a 25-23 win in the third set before losing the tie breaker 25-16. Wilson had 24 assists in the game, along with 1 kill, 1 ace, and 7 digs. Jones recorded 1 kill, 1 ace and 17 digs and Tomedolskey had 8 kills, 2 aces, 8 digs. Other scoring included Hughes 6 kills, 2 aces, 2 digs; Kinard 7 kills, 1 ace, 9 digs; Warren 1 kill, 1 dig; Mock 1 kill; Craven 2 kills and Catterton 7 digs.

On Thursday, October 14, the Lady Hawks traveled to Holy Trinity and earned a 3-1 win after losing the first set 25-15 then winning three straight (25-17, 25-11, 25-22). Wilson had 1 kill, 3 digs and 31 assists and Jones had 4 kills, 1 ace, and 17 digs. Hughes had 16 kills, 3 aces and 3 digs. Other scoring included Kinard 7 kills, 3 aces, 3 digs; Tomedolskey 5 kills, 1 block, 3 aces, 2 digs; Warren 2 digs; Mock 3 kills; Craven 2 kills, 1 dig; and Catterton 6 digs.

“It was another great week for the Lady Hawks,” said Coach David Roper. “The team played well this week and we were able to get another two Region IV-AA wins. We had a tough game and loss against a good Hilton Head Prep team, but we never gave up. This team is scrappy, and I am so proud of their success and how we are playing. We are looking forward to seeing how the region will play out and having a great opportunity to make it to the SCISA State Tournament.”
