The Colleton Prep varsity girls basketball team dropped their Region I-AA opener 44-28 against John Paul II Friday Jan. 3 on the road. Trailing by six points heading into the fourth period, the Golden Warriors managed a 16-point lead late in the game. Langley Harter had 16 points, pulled down 6 rebounds and accounted for 3 steals in the contest. Heather Davis added 7 points and 4 rebounds and Rachel Wright had 3 points and 3 assists. Taylor Tomedolskey had 2 points and 2 rebounds and Rianna Bailey had 4 rebounds. Devore led John Paul II with 18 points and Hamilton added 12 points. “Coming off Christmas break was a challenge,” said head coach Nicole Cain. “The girls stepped up and played hard. At half time we were down by five points, which is definitely manageable. Langley started the second half with three fouls and Rianna had two fouls going into the second half. Heather picked up four fouls in the second half, three of which were in the third quarter. A few bad calls broke the girls’ spirit and they got frustrated. Overall, I was very impressed with how they played during the game. I look forward to a different outcome when we play them on our court.” The Lady Hawks (2-5, 0-1) will host Hilton Head Prep Friday Jan. 10.
