The Colleton Prep Softball team competed in the Grand Slam Jam held on Saturday, February 26 at Ace Basin Sports Complex.

The Lady Hawks defeated Barnwell High School 10-2 and Beaufort High School 9-1.

“The Grand Slam Jam was a success for us,” said Coach Tiger Martin. “We had great reps against two pitchers with plenty of pace. Our pitching staff, Haley Bootle, Becca Martin, and Sidney Bailey, had a nice day, not allowing any earned runs. Taylor Tomedolskey, Linley Jones, Sidney Bailey and Brayli Stanfield did well at the plate.”

According to Martin, despite a successful day on Saturday, the Lady Hawks still have some work to do. “As we head into the season, we will continue to redefine our offense,” said Martin. “We do not have the speed throughout the lineup like last year. This year’s edition will need to manufacture runs – and need reps to do that.”

“Our infield is brand new,” said Martin. “All four fielding positions are being played by someone new, so that will take time for them to gel. We are very capable, but not as aggressive as we need to be yet. Overall, I am excited to see what this team can become.”

The 2022 roster includes Caroline Kinard, Brayli Stanfield, Becca Martin, Addy Crosby, Taylor Tomedolskey, Hannah Strickland, Linley Jones, Haley Bootle, Makenzie Pellum, Sidney Bailey, Ava Murray, and Taylor Carroll.

Colleton Prep will host Beaufort Academy on Tuesday, March 1 at 4 p.m. before traveling to Dorchester Academy on March 4. The following day the Lady Hawks will head to Calhoun Academy for a 4 p.m. first pitch for the JV squad and a 6:30 start for the varsity.
