Lady Hawk Softball falls in AA Lower-State Championship

The Colleton Prep Lady Hawk Softball team was eliminated from the SCISA AA Lower-State Championship Tournament after a 4-2 loss against Williamsburg Academy in the championship series. The Lady Hawks lost the opening game against Williamsburg (7-3) and dropped into the loser’s bracket. They then defeated Carolina Academy (5-4) and shut-out Lee Academy (6-0) to advance to the championship game.

In game one against Williamsburg played Thursday, April 12, Haley Bootle took the 7-3 loss, surrendering seven runs on nine hits over seven innings, striking out five. Linley Jones, Makenzie Pellum, Becca Martin, Hannah Strickland, and Addison Crosby each collected one hit for the Lady Cougars.

Against Carolina Academy in game two later in the day, Bootle earned the 5-4 win allowing four hits and three runs over six innings, striking out two. The Lady Hawk collected seven hits in the game. Linley Jones went 2-3 with 2-RBI’s and Addison Crosby went 2-3. Sidney Bailey, Haley Bootle, and Hannah Strickland each had a hit in the game.

Returning to competition Saturday May 14, the Lady Hawks defeated Lee Academy 6-0. Bootle once again controlled the circle, throwing a complete game shutout, allowing one hit over six and two-thirds innings, striking out eight and issuing a single walk. Taylor Tomedolskey went 2-3 with 3-RBI’s at the plate. Crosby, Pellum, Jones, and Ava Murray had a hit each. Jones was credited with six stolen bases in the game.

In the 4-2 loss to Williamsburg in the championship, the game was tied at one run after five innings. Colleton Prep scored in the top of the sixth to take the lead, but Williamsburg’s bats came alive in the bottom of the inning and the War Hawks allowed three runs to cross home plate. Colleton Prep would go three-up and three-down in the top of the seventh to be eliminated from post-season play.

Senior Haley Bootle took the loss, surrendering four runs on eight hits over six innings, striking out five and issuing no walks. Pellum and Crosby each had a hit in the game.

Colleton Prep finished the 2022 season 14-4 overall and claimed the Region IV-AA title after a 6-0 finish in the conference.
