Lady Cougars split series with Hilton Head

The Colleton County Lady Cougars split decisions in the two-game Region VII-AAAA series versus Hilton Head High School last week with a 15-5 loss in game one and a 3-1 win in game two.

Colleton County is currently 5-3 overall and 3-2 in Region VII-AAAA.

The Lady Cougars traveled to Hilton Head on March 30 for game one where they would fall behind early. Sydney Stivender stared for the Lady Cougars in the circle, lasting four and two-thirds innings, allowing 14 hits and 15 runs while striking out two. Mackenzie Pellum and Shandi Brown had multiple hits for Colleton County. Makayla Chisolm and Bailey Cox each recorded a hit.

In the 3-1 win over Hilton Head Friday April 1 at home, the Lady Cougars stole the lead late in the game on an error after being tied at one run in the bottom of the fifth. Stivender earned the win for Colleton County in the circle, allowing one run on four hits over seven innings, striking out four and walking none. Shandi Brown went 2-3 at the plate to lead Colleton County.

Jordan Slocum, Lanasia Sanders, and Cox each recorded a hit in the game.

The Lady Cougars were scheduled to face James Island High School in a two-game series beginning Monday, April 4 at home and concluding on the road on Wednesday, April 6.

Colleton County will travel to Beaufort High School on Friday, April 8.
