Lady Cougars pick up Region VII win over Hilton Head

The Colleton County Lady Cougars earned a 56-50 Region VII-AAAA win over Hilton Head last week. Later in the week they fell 54-36 to Bluffton High School to finish the week 9-5 overall and 1-3 in conference play.

Against Hilton Head High School on Tuesday, January 4, the Lady Cougars led by six points heading into the half. The Seahawks outscored Colleton County in the third period, but the Lady Cougars dominated the fourth quarter to capture the win, shooting 53-percent and grabbing 13 defensive rebounds. Shandi Brown scored 18 points and Makayla Chisolm added 15 points. Other scoring included Heaven Green 9, Bethany Monroe 8, Ma’Kayla Brown 4, and Makayla Padgett 2.

In the loss to Bluffton High School on Friday, January 7 on the road, the Lady Cougars trailed 23-19 at the half. Both teams scored 15 points in the third period, but Bluffton came out strong in the fourth period scoring 16 points. Chisolm led Colleton County with 13 points and Brown added 10. Other scoring included Monroe 9 and Green 4.

“We had a pretty good week, overall,” said Coach Charles Lindsay. “We played well against Hilton Head, which is a well-coached and really good team. Against Bluffton, we played well but had one bad quarter which took us out the game. Bluffton is a strong and well-coached team, and when playing against them, you must play competitively all four quarters. From here on out, we’ll face tough opponents each week.”

Colleton County will host Beaufort High School on Friday, January 14.
