The Colleton County High School Lady Cougar Softball team hosted the Grand Slam Jam Saturday Feb. 15 at ACE Basin Sports Complex. The annual preseason fundraising tournament showcased 15 teams from across the state including Summerville, Woodland, Hanahan, May River, Nation Ford, Colleton Prep, Beaufort, Barnwell, Battery Creek, Oceanside, Bamberg, Branchville, Hilton Head and Fox Creek high schools.

According to Lady Cougar Head Coach Tootie Edwards, it was a successful day all around. “We didn’t actually keep a score book yesterday at all,” said Edwards. “We played very well against Woodland High School and we were able to capitalize on some things. They are a good team; I think we just out-batted them.

“Summerville is a very solid team and always has been,” said Edwards. “We recorded a few errors in the game which cost us some runs. But it was a close game the entire time. I’m so excited for my girls this upcoming season. I’m hopeful that great things will happen for us this year. I’m excited about the staff and all the knowledge that comes with each of them.”

Legendary former head coach Rusty Adams has rejoined the Lady Cougar staff as an assistant coach.
