Lady Cougars earn win over Seahawks

The Colleton County varsity girls basketball team earned a SCHSL Region VII-AAAA 58-51 win over Hilton Head High School last week. The Lady Cougars suffered a 37-32 loss against Lucy Beckham earlier in the week. Colleton County is 11-7 overall and 3-6 in conference play.

Against Lucy Beckham on Tuesday, January 25 at home, the Lady Cougars shot 32 percent in overall field goals and was 1-5 in free throws with 16 turnovers. Shandi Brown led with 14 points. Bethany Monroe added 7 points. Other scoring included Makayla Chisolm with five points, Heaven Green with four points and Makalya Padgett with two points.

In the win over Hilton Head on Friday, January 28 on the road, Colleton County shot 41 percent from the field and was 21-30 in free throws with 18 turnovers. Brown led with 32 points and 6 rebounds.

Chisolm added 14 points and Monroe had 9 points. Other scoring players included Marissa Thompson with two points and Cherish McFadden, who scored one point.

“It was a hard-fought game and both teams played well,” said Coach Charles Lindsay following the Hilton Head game. “We were able to make free throws late in the fourth quarter to hold off the Seahawks.”

Colleton County will travel to James Island High School on Tuesday, February 1 before hosting Bluffton High School on Friday, February 4.
