The Colleton County Lady Cougar Tennis team fell 6-1 in their season opener against Wade Hampton High School Tuesday August 24. The Lady Cougar’s No. 1, Russunde Blackshear, defeated Wade Hampton’s No. 1 (2-1) earning the only win of the day for Colleton County.

“I am incredibly proud of how my girls played, and we look forward to coming back with all our players after a brief hiatus,” said Coach Madeline Brawley. “We have a young team, but these ladies have worked so hard and have improved beyond what I ever could have hoped for in such a short period of time. I am excited to see what the rest of the season holds.”

The Lady Cougars, along with all Colleton County High School Athletics, are on “pause” due to COVID-19 until September 13. A press release dated Friday August 27 states, “It is with an abundance of caution that CCSD Athletics will be paused until September 13. We were looking forward to the resurgence of Cougar Athletics as participation on almost all teams has surpassed pre-COVID numbers, but we do not want to risk anyone’s health and wellness given the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus throughout the school district. As we make plans moving forward, we will provide more information regarding practices, games and athletics in the coming days.”
