The Colleton County Lady Cougar Soccer team earned a 7-0 shutout win over Whale Branch Early College High School last week. Earlier this month, the Lady Cougars suffered losses against Bluffton High School (7-0) and Beaufort High School (5-0). The Lady Cougars are currently 4-5 overall and 0-5 in Region VII-AAAA.

In the loss to Beaufort High School on March 22, Coach Danielle van Hulst said the team came together in the game.

“I saw highlights of everything we have been working on. We held them 30 minutes, then they were able to score the first two goals back-to-back. As a team, I told them we needed to work on our fitness, which we have been doing. Even though the score board isn’t showing it, we are having more faith in the system.”

Against Whale Branch Early College High School on March 25, Sierra Obenaus scored 3 goals. Other scoring included Kaylin Daliva 1, Jeana Matthews 1, Hailee Marin 1, and Lauren Reynolds 1.

“All the girls did well at possessing the ball and playing their position, which is what we have been practicing,” said van Hulst. “Coach LaPresta and I were happy to see the little things we were working on, but the downfall came when we were playing slow trying to move the ball.”

Colleton County was scheduled to travel to May River High School on March 29 and Lucy Beckham on April 1 for Region VII-AAAA matches.
