JV Lady Cougars fall to Wade Hampton

The Colleton County Lady Cougar JV Soccer team fell 4-1 against Wade Hampton on Wednesday March 11 on the road. Due to weather conditions, the JV team has had several games canceled in the preseason against Colleton Prep and Hanahan High School.

“We came out extremely well and they played their best game so far this season,” said JV head coach Danielle VanHulst. “It was 0-0 at half. We were playing as a team and communicating well. The girls were using everything we had been going over in practice. Our last game played was also against Wade Hampton where we lost 4-0. The weather has not been our friend this season, so seeing them come out and play without having a game in between these two and do what they needed to do was amazing.

“As soon as the second half started, a penalty kick was called for Wade Hampton,” said VanHulst. “Karma Simons was fingertips away from saving it. The team did not let that keep them down. A few minutes later we worked the ball upfield. Jessica Grinberg passed the ball to Brylie Dewey who was set up perfectly for a shot. We answered Wade Hampton’s goal. It being 1-1, the girls were still prepared to play. After a few injuries and a couple of questionable calls, Wade Hampton went up 3-1. We as a team started to break down, both mentally and physically, which allowed a few more shots on goal than we wanted. After looking at the stats, Wade Hampton scored three goals off calls made by the referees and we were not prepared to defend them. Every practice we add more stuff to go over. Hopefully we can improve next game and have better results.”

The JV Lady Cougars will be waiting awhile for their next game as they join other SCHSL teams who are sidelined until the beginning of April at the earliest.
