Just Do It!

Are you reading the Bible through with me? Grab your pen and journal, and get ready to write your thoughts as you journey through the Bible.

Did you learn anything from Leviticus? It was an interesting journey. Now we turn to the book of Numbers. The English name refers to two notary censuses in chapters one and 26. Today, read Numbers 1-3.

In chapter one, note that Yahweh chose the 12 men who would assist Moses and Aaron in the census. He called each of them by name. Nashon of Judah had a descendant named Boaz who married Ruth (Ruth 4:20-22). They were the grandparents of David, who became King of Israel and established the Messianic line of the Lord Jesus. This is just another segment of the scarlet thread through the Bible. See Matthew 1:4-16 and Luke 3:23-33.

Why a census? Because in order to take the Promised Land that God said would be theirs, the people would have to go to war. The census gave the numbers for potential soldiers. Sure, God could have struck down all the enemies for the Israelites, but the people needed to fight for themselves. They would appreciate the new land that much more if they had to work for it.

Next, God gave specific instructions about where everyone was supposed to live and what jobs they were supposed to do. There was order and purpose in everything He said and every decision He made. All of it was for the good of the entire nation and its future.

OH! And one more tidbit. Underline and highlight Numbers 1:54. When we do everything just as the Lord (El Shaddai) commands, He is our Provider, Protector, and Peace. When we try to improve, rush, delay or cut corners on anything that God commands us, it IS disobedience.

In your journal, list all the names of Jesus’s earthly family tree found in Luke 3:23-33. Notice that Jesus’s lineage contained people who were not only imperfect, but some were much worse.

Next, write about the times when you tried to act for God and made a mess. Did you rush, delay or cut corners instead of letting Him work His plan? What happened?

Pray: Jehovah Jireh, Lord our Provider, I need Your direction every day and my desire is to hear Your voice as I read Your word, pray, and meditate. Show me Your will and Your ways that I might walk in them. My pledge to You is that I will not rush ahead of You or delay in obedience. I will not try to improve on Your direction in any way. I will, as the scriptures say, do everything just as You say. Have Your way in my life, Lord.
