WALTERBORO:     Mr. Herbert Webb Jones, husband of Donna Sweatt Jones, passed away peacefully Christmas morning, December 25, 2024 at his home in Walterboro under hospice care with his family by his side.  He was 88. Webb was born in Ruffin December 27, 1935 a son of the late Herbert Sigsbee Jones and Alma Lee Drawdy Jones.  He began his career as a plumber and electrician for Thomas Berry Construction, before eventually working for himself as a general contractor.  He was a gifted carpenter and was known throughout the area for his skills as a craftsman.  Webb served in the South Carolina Army National Guard for over twenty-two years…retiring as a Staff Sergeant (SSG).   He was a member of Tabor Methodist Church, and enjoyed spreading the gospel as a Lay Speaker.  Webb loved singing gospel music, and was known for his ministry at nursing homes and revivals throughout Colleton County.  He was a square dance caller and instructor in both South Carolina and Georgia, and he enjoyed spending time working in his yard and gardening.   In addition to his wife of forty-one years, he is survived by his daughter Karen Jones Spooner (Paul), by his granddaughter Jodi E. Sheely (Ike Smoak), and by his great-grandchildren Tobin A.W. Bartell, Stanley A.W. Smoak, and Mallory I. George.  He leaves behind his sister Denna Jean Hodges.  Webb was predeceased by five sisters:  Judith “Judy” Elaine Jones, Mary Lee Merck, Carolyn Berry, Malda D. Taylor, and Barbara “Bobbie” Steedly.  He is also survived by a friend he considered a true brother, Ronnie Hildebrand (Anna).   Funeral services will be held Saturday morning, December 28, 2024 at 11:00 at Tabor Methodist Church, with burial following in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends Friday evening, December 27, 2024  from 5:00 until 7:00 at Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro, and they will also receive friends beginning at 10:00 Saturday morning in the sanctuary of the church.
