During the early morning hours of Tuesday, June 30th 2020, John Wayne Zygadlo passed away peacefully at the Medical University of South Carolina, at the age of 75, surrounded by his children, and wife, Dottie Causey Zygadlo. John Wayne was the oldest of three children, born to Sigismund (Johnny) Chester Zygadlo and Alice Register Zygadlo on February 11th 1945. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Dottie Causey Zygadlo, children: Pamela (Lovey) and Ben Thomas, Tammie (Chickley) and Randy Caldwell, Nicole (Tootie) and Karl Hunsinger, Carman Zygadlo (Silly Girl), and Kerry Zygadlo (Bunkus), grandchildren: Cope (Krysten) Hayden, Brandon (Sarah) Hayden, Joshua (Misty) Thomas, Jeb Stuart Smoak, Danner Smoak, Brantley Taylor, Karleigh Hunsinger, Hannah Caldwell, and Joshua Caldwell, and great grandchildren: Owen Hayden, Addison Hayden, Hub Hayden, Maddie Thomas, Logan Thomas, and Harley Thomas.John Wayne was born and raised in Hendersonville SC, along with his two younger sisters, Janet M. Zygadlo and Nancy Ringer. He became known as “Dink”, which was his childhood nickname that was given to him by his family and uncles, growing up. John Wayne graduated from Walterboro High in 1963, and resided in Walterboro SC for the remainder of his life. He joined the US Coast Guard after graduating from Walterboro High and served for four years. He was a true Gamecock fan at heart, he loved watching Westerns, and he loved Motown’s hits. John Wayne enjoyed football, softball, music and dancing. His immense love for music led him to become a DJ for several years during his early 40s.
Through out most of his life, he took on many jobs working for the public for Colleton County, including Besteel, financial loan companies, and during the last few years of his life, he worked for Colleton County’s Waste and Recycling Landfill. He made many friends working for the county during these years; friends who would never let him go home without a home cooked meal. There was nothing more important to him in life than his family, and he loved his children more than anything in the world. He always said that his children were his greatest accomplishments. Most importantly, he loved and served our Lord, Jesus Christ. John Wayne was a very religious person. He was a man of God and a man of pure faith. He leaves behind his truest friend in life; an uncle, a best friend, a brother: Wayne C. Register.
Graveside funeral services will be held Thursday morning, July 2, 2020 at 10:00 AM at the Stokes Cemetery near Hendersonville. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
