Jesus speaks peace to your raging heart | Faith

Mark 4:38

“And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?”

Jesus Christ is the most influential and powerful person of all time.

The disciples of Jesus were often being taught important lessons that we can still relate to in our own lives today. Once, on the Sea of Galilee, a terrible storm arose and the disciples were terrified! Although there were at least four of them who were professional fisherman, and at home on the sea, they all were convinced they were about to die. What seemed to make matters worse was the fact that their master, Jesus, whom they trusted with their lives, was asleep!

These men had watched Him do the miraculous on more than one occasion, and they had each pledged their lives to follow Him, by faith. This night, and this storm seemed to be the end of the journey for them all … including their weary leader.

Jesus was asleep. By all appearances, it would seem that He was oblivious to the situation and their dire need. Jesus was asleep. If He was God and had all knowledge and power, couldn’t He have done something to prevent this storm? Or was His sleeping through this torrent the convincing proof of His ability to be in full control at all times?

Thankfully, we know the answer. The Bible tells us that the disciples hastened to their sleeping Lord and cried out in fear, “Carest thou not that we perish?” How could He care for us while peacefully sleeping? But He did care and He still cares today. Your “storm” of life has not taken Jesus by surprise. The winds of adversity and wave after wave of overwhelming troubles are no match for the Master and Creator God, our Lord Jesus Christ!

For that small band of frightened men, the next few moments would burn in their memories for the rest of their lives. Jesus, the Son of God, arose from His place of peaceful sleep, and they heard the clear voice of the One who created the seas as He spoke these words … “Peace, be still.” What a calm! What a peaceful quiet that every one of them saw and felt as well! (The sea was quieted too.)

Jesus still speaks “peace” to your raging and storm-tossed heart. Jesus hears your heart’s cry and He is touched by the fear you feel each day. Jesus can save you and deliver you from every sin or storm you may be facing. He still says, “ Peace, be still!” … and He can do so in your life as well! (By the way, He calms storms too.)
