Jacobs elected as Jr. Vice Commander

Marc Jacob of Colleton County Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 12102 was elected and installed as the Jr. Vice Commander for District 1, Department of South Carolina. He has also been appointed to the National Security and Foreign Affairs Committee. Mr. Jacob has served as the Post Commander since 2019. He also served as Post Adjutant from 2011 to 2019. He has been appointed National Aide-de-Camp for the Department of South Carolina for the last two years.

Mr. Jacob joined the VFW in 1990 as a life member of his father’s post in Grand Isle, VT. After retiring from the Navy, he transferred his membership the Moncks Corner Post 9509. In 2011 He became a charter member of Colleton County Post 12102.

Mr. Jacob joined the US Navy in 1974, and went to Boot Camp in Great Lakes, IL. After school in Great Lakes, IL he went to sea aboard the USS Benjamin Stoddert (DDG-22) homeported in Pearl Harbor, HI where he earned his VFW eligibility during Operation Eagle-Pull (The United States military evacuation by air of Phnom Penh, Cambodia) Operation Frequent Wind (The evacuation of American civilians and “at-risk” Vietnamese from Saigon, South Vietnam), receiving the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (later converted to Vietnam Service Medal).

Mr. Jacob went on to serve on the USS Leader (MSO-490) during Operation Desert Storm. Receiving the Southwest Asia Service Medal and the Combat Action Ribbon. He also served onboard the USS Robert E. Peary (FF-1073), USS Forrestal (CV-59), USS Fearless (MSO-442) and USS Exultant (MSO-441). He finished his twenty-year career on shore duty at Shore Intermediate Maintenance Activity (SIMA), Mobile, AL before settling in South Carolina.

After the Navy he went to work as a defense contractor testing, installing and maintaining military satellite systems. He retired in 2023 after 28+ years.
