Graduates were honored at the 37th Annual Scholarship Program and 29th Annual Career Awareness and Recognition Day at White Hall African Methodist Church in Greenpond.
The scholarships name sake, Mrs. Irene Hugine, spent her life in service helping the youth in her community to reach their ultimate potential. Through her encouragement and guidance Mrs. Hugine helped hundreds of young people become good citizens. She was active in her church and in many organizations including the Eastern Star White Hall Chapter No. 132. Upon Mrs. Hugine’s passing a memorial education scholarship was established by the White Hall Circuit to continue her mission. Each year the scholarship is awarded to students from the lower part of Colleton County and the White Hall Circuit. The Irene Hugine Memorial Scholarship Program allows Mrs. Hugine’s work to continue on in the community.
In a fitting tribute the guest speaker at the event was Dr. Andrew Hugine, Jr. the son of the late Reverend Andrew Hugine, Sr. and Mrs. Irene S. Hugine.
