A 71-year-old Smoaks man was critically injured after he was struck by a car in the 800 block of Sizemore Road Wednesday June 10.
The man received multiple traumatic injuries, including head and facial injuries. The accident was reported at 8:19 a.m., but it is possible the man had been in the ditch for some time before he was found. The car that struck him did not stop.
Firefighter-paramedics treated him at the scene and called for a medical helicopter to respond. CARE Flight landed in a nearby field in Johnsville. The man was flown to a trauma center.
The S.C. Highway Patrol is investigating the accident. Anyone with information regarding the accident is asked to contact the S.C. Highway Patrol or the Sheriff’s Office.
