Indians win two at home

The Salkehatchie mens basketball team improved to 14-10 overall and 5-4 in NJCAA Region X after earning conference wins over Spartanburg Methodist (84-71) and Cape Fear College (94-86) at home last week. The Indians accomplished this feat with just six eligible players on the roster.

Against Spartanburg Methodist on Thursday, February 3 at home, Lee Langstaff scored 31 points and claimed 4 rebounds to lead the Indians. Derrick Sinkler added 20 point and 4 rebounds for Salkehatchie. Other scoring included Trevur Smalls 11, Tre’Von Spillers 10, Kharye Cayne 8, and Kailee White 4.

“This was a great conference win for us,” said interim head coach Matthew Bennett. “I am immensely proud of my guys for giving us 40 minutes of all they had. As a coach, you just can’t ask for more than that.”

In the win over Cape Fear on Saturday, February 5 in Walterboro, Langstaff led with 25 points and 5 rebounds. Smalls added 19 points and 11 rebounds. Other scoring included Sinkler 15, Spillers 14, White 12, and Cayne 9.

“We are playing great basketball right now,” said Bennett following Saturday’s game. “We are finally understanding we over me. I love how hard we are competing right now and look for it to continue as we head into the next two road games.”

Salkehatchie will travel to Caldwell College in Hudson, North Carolina on Thursday, February 10 and will face Denmark Tech on the road on Wednesday, February 16.
