Indians open 2021-22 season with a win at home

The Salkehatchie Indians opened the 2021-22 season with a win at home over East Georgia State (79-57) on Tuesday, November 9. The Indians traveled to Destin, Florida to compete in the LCC Classic Nov. 5-6 where they fell to Gulf Coast State (81-72) and No. 11 nationally ranked Northwest Florida State (100-81).

In the win over East Georgia State, Jordan Guthrie led with 23 points, 5 assists and 3 rebounds. Other top scorers included Kailee White 12 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists; Trevur Smalls 11 points, 8 rebounds; and Diamante Brown 9 points and 9 rebounds.

Against Gulf Coast State, Derrick Sinkler Jr. scored 21 points, had 5 rebounds and 4 assists in the game. Other top scoring included Guthrie 23 points, 3 rebounds, 5 assists; White 8 points, 3 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 block; Brown 8 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist; and Smalls 8 points, 2 rebounds and 1 assist.

In the loss to top-ranked Northwest Florida State, Derrick Sinkler Jr. recorded his second consecutive 20-plus scoring night with 20 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists. Lee Langstaff II led with 24 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists. Tre’Von Spillers recorded 13 points, 5 rebounds and 1 assist.

“I am proud of our guys for their collective team effort,” said Coach Glen Mayo. “Everyone stepped up and contributed. We hope to see a crowd this Wednesday, November 10, when we host Columbia International JV at 7 p.m.”

The Indians will host Columbia International JV on Wednesday, November 10 at 7 p.m. and will face Franklin Prep at home on November 16.
