The Salkehatchie Indians will enter the Region X Post-Season Tournament as the No. 4 seed following losses last week against Gaston College (97-95) and Cape Fear College (92-85). Salkehatchie finished the regular season 17-11 overall and 8-5 in conference play.

Salkehatchie faced No. 5 seed Cape Fear on March 1 at 5 p.m. at Denmark Technical College. As the higher seed, the Indians were slated for a home game, but due to issues over not meeting the regulation court requirements they will instead travel to the neutral location.

In the loss to Gaston College on February 22 at home, the Indians shot 38.4 percent, went 22-28 in free throws, and recorded 8 turnovers in the game. Salkehatchie was led by Lee Langstaff who scored 33 points and had 10 rebounds. Derrick Sinkler scored 23 points with 1 rebound. Other scoring included Trevur Smalls 10, Tre’Von Spillers 10, Kailee White 10, Kharye Cayne 5 and Stephan Gadson 4.

Against Cape Fear College on February 25 in the final regular season game, the Indians shot 39.5 percent overall, went 18-21 from the line, and had 7 turnovers in the loss. Salkehatchie was led by Derrick Sinkler with 33 points and 1 rebound. Smalls added 16 points and 1 rebound. Other scoring included White 14, Langstaff 1, Cayne 4, Gadson 4, Spillers 2, and Randall Litmon 1.

“The Region X Tournament is a fresh start for us,” said interim head coach Matthew Bennett. “Our record is 0-0. We worked hard and now it is time to show those efforts. It is either win or go home – and we are not ready to go home.”
