Indians improve win streak to 7



The Salkehatchie Indians improved their win streak to seven in a row following a tumultuous week after the resignation of former head coach Glen Mayo. Former assistant Matthew Bennett has been named interim men’s basketball coach for USC Salkehatchie following the departure of Coach Mayo.

Salkehatchie earned wins over Columbia International JV (95-61), South Georgia State (82-77), Gordon State (75-64), and Franklin Prep (128-71).

Against Columbia International JV on Tuesday, November 23, Derrick Sinkler Jr scored 22 points and recorded 3 rebounds, as Jordan Guthrie scored 14 points with 7 rebounds.

Other scoring included Diamante Brown 13; Kailee White 12; Tre’von Spillers 8; Trevur Smalls 7; Randall Litmon 6 and Kharye Cayne 3. This was the Indians' last win under Mayo.

In the win over South Georgia State on Tuesday, November 30, Sinkler led with 28 points and 1 rebound. D. Brown added 13 points and 8 rebounds. Other scoring included J. Guthrie 11; K. White 11; R. Litmon 5; K. Cayne 4; and Christopher Nobles 2. This was Salkehatchie’s first win under interim coach Matthew Bennett.

Playing at home against Gordon State on Friday, December 3, Sinkler scored 19 points with 5 rebounds and Kailee White added 11 points and 4 rebounds. Other scoring included J. Guthrie 9; Lee Langstaff 9; C Nobles 7; R. Litmon 6; D. Brown 4; T. Spillers 4; and T. Smalls 4.

Derrick Sinkler led the Indians at home for the fourth consecutive game against Franklin Prep on December 4, scoring 22 points. Lee Langstaff scored 20 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, and recorded 10 assists. Other scoring included Guthrie 15; D. Brown 14; Trevur Smalls 14; R. Litmon 12; K. Cayne 11; C. Nobles 10; Stephan Gadson 6; K. White 2; and T. Spillers 2.

Salkehatchie, currently 8-2 overall, was scheduled to travel to East Georgia State on Tuesday, December 7 before a road game against Gordon State on Saturday, December 11.
