Indians eliminated in OT during semifinals of Atlantic District Championship

The Salkehatchie Indian basketball team was eliminated from post-season play following an overtime loss (108-99) to Caldwell Tech in the semifinals of the 2021 NJCAA Men’s Basketball Atlantic District Championship on Thursday, April 8. 

The Indians earned a win earlier in the week during double overtime against Cape Fear Community College (96-94) in the quarterfinals to advance. Salkehatchie finished the season 8-10 overall and 4-6 in Region X under Coach Glen Mayo. 

In the win over Cape Fear on Tuesday, April 6, it took double overtime for the Indians to capture the win after a 75-75 tie at the end of regulation play. Both teams scored six points in overtime, sending the teams into double overtime. The Indians outscored their opponents 15-13 in the second overtime. 

Derrick Sinkler scored 24 points, recorded five rebounds and seven steals in the game. Damontrez Ruffin added 20 points, six rebounds and three assists and Cincere Scott had 14 points, six rebounds and four assists. Other scoring included Reginal Campbell, who added 13 points; Randall Litman, who added nine points; Jordan Guthrie, who added six points; DiShon Daniels, who added four; Chris Nobles, who added four; and Kharye Cane, who added two points to the score. 

In play against Caldwell Tech, DiShon Daniels led with 18 points, five rebounds and two assists. Nobles added 14 points and eight rebounds and Scott had 13 points, nine assists and eight rebounds. Other scoring included Guthrie, with 13 added points; Ruffin, who added 12; and Litmon, who added 11 points to the final score.
