Indians dominate Richard Bland

The Salkehatchie Indians are making a lot of noise on a lot of different fronts.

Currently ranked 17th in the NJCAA Men’s Basketball Poll, the Indians improved to 22-4 overall and 9-1 in Region X after Saturday’s dominating 103-56 win over Richard Bland at home. The win was historic as it set a new school record for the number of wins in a single season and moved the sophomore class to claim the title of winningest class to play at USC-Salkehatchie.

“It was a great defensive effort tonight,” said Coach Jake Williams. “I am proud of our team and I am enjoying this journey with them.”

Vince Cole led the Indians scoring 23 points and laying claim to three steals in the game. Prior to the start of the game, Cole was awarded with a special game ball for scoring his 1,000th career point at Salkehatchie in a recent win over Cape Fear Community College.

Other Indian scoring included Michael Marsh 15 points, 10 rebounds; Keyon Wesley 14 points, 5 rebounds; Jay Jefferson 12 points, 4 assists, 2 steals; Jordan Cross 11 points, 5 rebounds; Maliek Wilcox 10 points, 5 assists, 7 steals; Kevin Williamson 9 points; PJ Walker 8 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists; Ahmad Rand 8 rebounds, 5 blocks; and Mardrez McBride 5 assists.

Salkehatchie has three regular season games remaining including a home game Saturday Feb. 22 against Caldwell Tech.
