ow, love is an action word. Telling someone all day long that you love him or her will not amount to a hill of beans if there is no genuine action to back it up. A man can give his significant other the most beautiful, expensive diamond ring, but if he doesn’t show her real love and respect, that ring will be all for naught. Buying love has never worked and never will. Parents can take their children on the best vacations and buy them all kinds of gadgets they desire, but if they never teach them about the love of God and His people, it, too, will be all for naught. First John 4:21(ESV) declares, “And this commandment we have from him: whoever loves God must also love his brother.” Therefore, if you truly love God and His people, it will show!
Sunday after Sunday and on other days, people attend church services, across the world. That being the case, then why is there so much hate and division among us? The answer is clear: many of us are at the church, but the church is not within us. When Christ returns, He will be coming back for a “church without spot or wrinkle,” and that does not mean the building. Going to church every Sunday does not make you a Christian. The love of God and His people must be in your heart. If it is not, that will show also. Just as we aim to improve our physical persona to please ourselves and impress others, there is much room for all of us to improve our Christian walk.
Then what are some ways in which we can improve our Christian walk? Begin and end every day with prayer. Read and meditate on the Scriptures daily so that you will have a road map to guide you on this Christian walk. Be careful of the company that you keep and the places that you go. Protect your spiritual walk. Finally, remember that you are a disciple for Christ; therefore, act like it. Do you really love God and His people? If you do, by all means, show it. If you don’t, stop pretending. People can easily recognize a “Bible-toting phony.” Consequently, do as the spiritual says, “Get right with God, and do it now.” Always abound in the faith, and never leave home without Him!
