Firefighters with Colleton County Fire-Rescue responded on last Monday morning to this residential house fire in the 1200 block of Lowcountry Highway, on U.S. Highway 21.

Firefighters found smoke coming from the single-story house, and discovered the kitchen was on fire.

“Crews pulled the ceiling in the kitchen and quickly extinguished the fire. The fire appears to have started in the area where the stove vent pipe exited through the roof,” said Barry McRoy, chief of Colleton County Fire-Rescue. “The flames had spread through the attic space above the kitchen, damaging the insulation, wiring and rafters.”

The fire was contained to the kitchen and the remainder of the home received light smoke damage, he said. No one was injured in the fire. The American Red Cross is helping this family.
