A family of seven was displaced following a structure fire that destroyed most of their home on January 14th. A resident of the home notified 911 of the fire that began in the back bedroom by a heater. Colleton County Fire-Rescue arrived to find the home well involved with the fire already entering the attic. With all occupants safely out of the house, Firefighter-Paramedics deployed two handlines and entered the building through the front door. Crews left the building after encountering intense heat and a collapsing roof. A second alarm was requested to bring in water tenders and additional lines to fight the fire from the exterior of the structure. Crews had the fire under control after about 35 minutes but were on the scene for four hours performing overhaul. The Red Cross was contacted to assist the family. No injuries were reported. The home suffered substantial damage and most personal items were destroyed.
