Hooker’s 3 RBIs propel War Hawks to win over JPII

The Colleton Prep War Hawk Baseball team earned a 13-3 win over Region IV-AA opponent John Paul II and recorded a 9-6 loss against Calhoun Academy on the week. Colleton Prep is currently 2-6 overall and 1-3 in Region IV-AA.

In the at-home win over John Paul II on March 15, Drew Murdaugh earned the win for Colleton Prep, allowing no hits and three runs over four innings, striking out four. Will Cain threw one inning in relief and struck out John Paul II’s Ross Putnam to record the last out of the game. The War Hawks recorded eight hits in the game. Braeden Hiers and Colton Daniels each collected two hits to lead the War Hawks at the plate. Matt Hooker singled with 3-RBIs and led with two stolen bases. Cole Davis, Caden Crosby and Wylan Sheffield each had a hit.

Ross Putnam took the loss for John Paul II, surrendering nine runs on five hits over three innings, striking out six.

Playing at home against Calhoun Academy on March 17, Will Cain took the loss for the War Hawks allowing eight hits and seven runs over two and two-thirds innings, striking out three. Matt Hooker threw four and a third innings in relief, allowing no earned runs on four hits, issuing two walks, and striking out seven.

Hayden Williams went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Colleton Prep and led with two stolen bases. Cole Davis, Murdaugh, and Sheffield each recorded a hit.

Connor Hayes earned the win for Calhoun, surrendering six runs on four hits over four innings, striking out eight.

The War Hawks were scheduled to host Hilton Head High School on March 22, before traveling to Beaufort Academy the following evening. They will host Branchville High School on Friday, March 25 with a 7 p.m. first pitch planned.
