Hooker goes 4-5 in opener with two homeruns

The Colleton Prep varsity baseball team opened their 2021 season with a 27-9 win over Northwood Academy in the season opener. The home game was held on Tuesday, Feb. 23rd. 

CPA Senior Kyle Hooker went 4-5 with two homeruns and 6-RBI’s on the day. The War Hawks would fall 7-6 in a close game against Andrew Jackson Academy, which was held on the road on Thursday.

In the win over Northwood, Pete Peters took the mound lasting two and one-third innings allowing three earned runs on five hits, striking out one and issuing three walks. Warhawks Colton Daniels, Ryan McMillen, and Carter Smoak all saw time on the hill. 

Offensive leaders included Pete Peters ,who went with 2-4 with an RBI and scored four runs. Colton Daniels was 2-3 with 2-RBI’s and Drew Murdaugh was 2-4 with 2-RBI’s.

Playing against Andrew Jackson, Carter Smoak opened lasting five innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits, striking out two and issuing a single walk. Hooker and Daniels provided relief. Cole Gulotti, Murdaugh and Caden Crosby had hits for the War Hawks. 

The junior varsity earned a 16-2 win over Northwood Academy.  

Colleton Prep was scheduled to host Hilton Head Christian on Monday, March 1 and were scheduled to play against Northwood Academy on Tuesday, March 2. Those games came after this newspaper’s deadline for this issue. The Warhawks will also travel to Porter Gaud on Wednesday, March 3 and to Dorchester on Thursday, March 4.
