Mrs. Loretta Sue Haton Hickam, 82 of Walterboro, passed away Wednesday evening, March 19, 2025, surrounded by her loving family after a long-fought battle with an illness at her home. Mrs. Hickam was born July 29, 1942, in Indiana. She was the daughter of Randall (Cowboy) Haton and Ruby Harmon. She had seven children. While living in Indiana, she was the co-owner of Fulk’s Owen Valley Restaurant in Spencer, Indiana in the 1970’s. At the restaurant, it was common to see Bobby Knight, the coach of the Indiana Hoosier championship basketball team, and many of the players. She was also a former kitchen manager at the Terre Haute Federal Penitentiary, and after she left there, she made her way to Walterboro for the second time in her life. She resided here in Walterboro and left for Indiana when her husband passed away in 1989. In South Carolina, Mrs. Hickam worked for Steve Wimberly at Interstate Marketers for many years, before she retired. After retirement, she enjoyed gardening, her yard, and her 9 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. She was of the Baptist Faith, and was baptized early in life, and fully believed in our Lord Jesus Christ. Loretta was predeceased by 5 of her children, Theresa Lynn Johnson, Phillip Dewayne Johnson, Danny Wayne Johnson, Lori Kreighbaum, and Lisa Johnson. She was also predeceased by a brother, Randy Joe Haton, her best little canine friend Willie, and her parents. She leaves behind two sons, Larry Johnson, and his wife Kelly of Walterboro, Lennie Johnson, and his wife Christina of Barnwell. And a very special childhood friend of 78 years, Ann Calvin of Bloomington, Indiana. Her final days were in the hands of Agape Hospice, which the family would like to thank, as well as her personal caretaker, her daughter-in-law, Christina. Funeral services were held at 2:30, Sunday afternoon, March 23, 2025, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. The Reverend Ted Still officiated.
