He Wants to Take Us Higher

Are you reading the Bible through with me? Grab your pen and journal, and get ready to write your thoughts as you journey through the Bible.

Read Exodus 22-24, then re-read 24:9-18. The verses say, “Moses and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and the seventy elders of Israel went up 10 and saw the God of Israel. Under his feet was something like a pavement made of lapis lazuli, as bright blue as the sky. 11 But God did not raise his hand against these leaders of the Israelites; they saw God, and they ate and drank.”

Can you imagine being invited to dinner by Yahweh God? What a remarkable opportunity the leaders had to be in the presence of God.

He often invites us to enter His presence to be filled, loved, instructed and changed. But notice that the people had to stop at a distance. God invited Moses to come higher. Moses obeyed and when he arrived, he waited 6 days before God met Him and spoke.

When God calls, it’s usually a call to go deeper in our faith and quite often, it involves waiting. Moses was there in the cloud of glory for six days before God called out to him on the seventh day. Then for 40 days and nights, he remained in the Presence of the Lord God of Israel. What a joy he received…all because he patiently waiting on the Lord.

That is one of the most difficult things that most Christians face…waiting. If you study the patriarchs of the Old Testament and the great saints of the New Testament, you’ll discover that most of them went through periods of trial, isolation, and waiting.

Know that when God is silent, it does NOT mean that He is absent. He always acts with purpose. Be patient, be faithful, be still and know that HE is God!

1 Thessalonians 5:24 says, “He who calls you is faithful and He will do it.” When God calls, all you need to do is trust, obey, and wait until He speaks or acts to give you direction.

Pray: God of all creation, You are holy and sovereign. Thank You for Your desire to always take me higher and deeper in my relationship with You. In those times when my obedience requires that I wait, strengthen my patience and give me peace during the waiting season as You prepare me for what lies ahead.
