On Oct. 1, Lewis Harris of Hayes Jewelers on Washington Street completed another annual recertification exam with the American Gem Society.
Harris has been a member of AGS for over 50 years and has been with Hayes Jewelers since 1971.
Every year, he is required to pass an exam on the latest industry developments including gemology, business, technology, legal regulations, etc. Only one in 20 retail jewelers is chosen to meet standards for AGS membership.
Founded in 1934, AGS is a non-profit association to promote a high standard of ethics, ongoing education and customer protection in the jewelry industry.
