Gunshot wound

An adult male received a gunshot wound to the leg in an incident that occurred at another location. At 1:56 a.m. Saturday Oct. 29, a sheriff’s deputy was flagged down at the intersection of Wichman and Washington Streets. He discovered an adult male in a vehicle that had been shot and radioed for medical assistance.

The vehicle had been hit by a bullets and apparently a bullet ricocheted, hitting the man in the side and then the leg.

Law enforcement officers controlled the bleeding until firefighter-paramedics arrived. The man was treated at the scene, then transported in Fire-Rescue Medic 1 in stable condition to the emergency department at Colleton Medical Center.

The intersection was closed for about an hour while Walterboro Police Department investigated the shooting. The WPD is continuing its investigation.
