A Green Pond awoke to smoke inside his house on Thursday morning, prompting a 911-emergency call that led local firefighters to an electrical kitchen fire.
The homeowner told firefighter-paramedics that he awoke at about 3:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 19th to his house filled with smoke. The man was able to leave the house safely before he called 911.
Firefighter-paramedics who responded to the Springhill Road residence found smoke coming from the eaves of the doublewide mobile home, with fire underneath and inside kitchen cabinets.
“Fire was also found in the ceiling above the refrigerator, possibly from the same electrical circuit supplying the stove,” said Colleton County Fire-Rescue Chief Barry McRoy. “Crews quickly knocked down the flames and removed some of the burning materials to the outside of the home.”
According to McRoy, the remainder of the home suffered from heat and smoke damage.
“It appeared the fire started in electrical wiring supplying the stove which ran under the sink,” he said. Most of the homeowner’s personal belongings were saved, but the majority of the inside of the kitchen in the house was damaged by flames and smoke.
However, according to McRoy, the home had no working smoke detectors.
