The Grass Roots & Dusty Boots open horse show series is set to welcome riders back after a hot summer on September 24, 2022.

The show will be held at Double D Arena in Walterboro, and showtime will be 8:30AM.

Show manager Deidra Lunny has taken great care with developing a slate of classes that caters to riders of all experience levels and disciplines.

The littlest equestrians are welcome to join in the assisted rider events, a spin on the traditional leadline classes seen at most horse shows. Along with western and english walk only and walk/trot classes, assisted riders can also try their hand at the trail course.

There are also a collection of classes for small equines at Grass Roots and Dusty Boots, including in-hand jumping, in-hand trail, driving, reinsmanship, and halter. Gaited horses and stallions have also not been left out of the mix, and there is even a lunge line class for the greenies.

All in all, there is a class for everyone, from hunt seat riders to ranch horse enthusiasts. There are even a few jackpot classes-you may get lucky and win back your entry fees!

Open horse shows like the Grass Roots and Dusty Boots series are imperative for the continuation of equestrian sports. The rising cost of feeding and caring for horses, paired with unprecedented fuel costs, makes traveling to larger shows harder on the budget for many equestrians. Open horse shows are also an excellent starting point for those who are new to the world of showing horses, those who ride without the help of a trainer, and for horses that are starting their show careers.

Take the time to support your local show circuits such as Grass Roots and Dusty Boots, Wishwehadda Farm’s shows, and Colleton County Saddle Club events, among others. Show up, have fun, and treat your fellow exhibitors with kindness and grace. You never know who is looking at you as a role model, or who’s day you may make a little brighter.
