Some special students were surprised last week with a unique graduation gift.
Colleton County High School special education seniors were recognized with a special visit at their homes from School District teachers and staff on June 4.
A group of eleven CCSD staff members traveled by bus and car throughout Colleton County, visiting fourteen seniors at their homes in Walterboro, Ruffin, Islandton, Green Pond, Round O and Cottageville.
Students were given “swag bags” from the CCSD Department of Special Services during these visits. The bags were filled with senior goodies, cupcakes, cookies and certificates verifying 12 years of school attendance. These were presented to students as they received praise from their teachers for accomplishments made throughout their school careers.
“Our goal was to let each senior know they are loved and that we ‘see’ their accomplishments,” CCSD Teacher for Project Search Karen Lockerman said. “They were each able to have their moment in the spotlight.”
Students Recognized: Nydriea McGhee, Caleb Smith, Caleb Cox, Jacob Herndon, Keavon Childress, Melvina Richardson, Harold Hicks III, Margaretta Perry, Deovion Kinsey, Elijah Bonilla, Andrew Dallas Thompson, Malachi Brown, Trent Holt, Malayai Green.
“All of us in Colleton County Schools congratulate these students for their success,” said Sean Gruber, CCSD coordinator of communications.
