Master Sergeant Jedith Lee Goodwin, United States Marine Corps, (Ret.), 88, of Yemassee, entered into eternal rest Friday evening, November 15, 2024, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Born November 12, 1936, in Hickory, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Jessie Goodwin and Sarah Hall Goodwin. He served his country faithfully in the United States Marine Corps; worked for Georgia Pacific for 22 years, served as the Town of Yemassee Municipal Judge for 20 years, and also served as the Town of Yemassee Mayor for 16 years. He was a member of Yemassee Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School Director. He also served on the Building and Grounds Committee, was instrumental in building the current fellowship hall and was also instrumental in starting the Van Ministry. He was a member of Mt. Moriah Masonic Lodge, No. 196, Ancient Free Masons in Yemassee.
Mr. J.L., as he was affectionately known to everyone, loved his country and dearly loved his community. His greatest passion was helping those in need and giving where he could. He also enjoyed reading. More than anything, he loved his family and cherished spending time with them.
Surviving are: his wife of 64 years, Linda Moore Goodwin of Yemassee; his daughters, Lori Goodwin Poston of Yemassee and Tammy Goodwin Lane and her husband Collins of Yemassee; grandchildren, Jennifer Sherman, Justin Lane, and Courtney Lane; great grandchildren, Ellie Kate Love, Jude Goodwin Love, Collins Lane, and Jed Lane; and his dedicated caregivers, Josie Roberts, Paulette Edwards, Belinda Jackson, and Courtney Ginn. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, David Poston.

Funeral services will be held 2 o’clock, Wednesday afternoon, November 20, 2024, at Yemassee Baptist Church, 127 Salkehatchie Road, Yemassee. Interment will follow in Ebenezer Cemetery, Ebenezer Road, Yemassee.
The family will receive friends for a time of visitation Wednesday from 12:30 pm until the hour of service in the church sanctuary.
