What happens when two kindergarten teachers go from teaching ABCs to recipes? “Sweet Teachers.”
Nancy Murray and Emily Lemacks teach kindergarten at Colleton Prep Academy. The much-loved duo, currently out for summer break, recently started their own small baking business. “Sweet Teachers” is selling their delights on Saturdays from 9-1 and Tuesdays from 4–8 p.m. at The Colleton Farmer’s Market, as well as accepting special orders.
According to Murray and Lemacks, the idea to start their baking business was a whim based on their love of baking and using old family recipes.
“I stopped by Ms. Murray’s one Saturday and she had just been to the Farmer’s Market,” said Lemacks. “We were in her kitchen talking and we both said we could do that. That night we were messaging, and I said we could be the ‘Sweet Teachers.’ In two weeks, we were at the Farmer’s Market.”
“I cannot begin to say how pleased we have been with our sales,” said Murray. “It has been incredible! The saying ‘Walterboro Rocks’ is so true. The love and support from the community has been amazing.”
For now, “Sweet Teachers” is content to continue growing its customer base throughout the summer before it is back to the ABCs this fall.
“In the future, we would love to see the business grow and open up a bakery,” said Lemacks. “But for now, we will just continue to bake and pray that the Lord will lead us where He wants us to go.”
